Cookie Policy
Effective date: 13 August 2026 · Last updated: 4 September 2026
Short version: we use no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and no third-party trackers. The only cookies we set are the ones needed to make features work.
What we use
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session / authentication | Keeps you signed in to an account-based Service and protects against request forgery | Strictly necessary | End of session, or the sign-in period |
Free-check counter (bi_free on Block Index, cv_free on Citation Verifier) |
A random identifier set when you run a free check without an account, so we can count how many free checks this browser has used. Contains no personal data and is not used for tracking or advertising. | Strictly necessary to provide the free tier | 1 year, or until you clear it |
| Participant token (public dashboard) | Records that a vote has been cast and lets you see your own history. Anonymous — not linked to a name, email or account. | Strictly necessary for the feature | A limited period, or until you clear it |
What we do not use
- No advertising or marketing cookies. We do not advertise.
- No third-party analytics. We count usage server-side with a simple counter (date, type of check, jurisdiction) that contains no personal data and sets no cookie.
- No social media pixels, no cross-site trackers, no fingerprinting.
- No third-party scripts on the citation-checking page. Nothing loads there that could observe the contents of your document.
Consent
The cookies above are strictly necessary to provide services you have asked for, so we do not ask for consent to them. If we ever introduce a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first, and it will be off until you agree.
Controlling cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary cookies, sign-in and voting will not work, and free checks without an account will not work (the free-check counter cookie is how we count them). Signed-in checks do not depend on the free-check cookie.
Do Not Track
We do not track you across websites, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to change.
